Tip #6: Get Organized!
Tip #6 for How I Save Money is Get Organized.
Getting yourself, your house, and your life organized is one of the best ways to save money, not to mention time and sanity!
When you’re house is organized, you know exactly where everything is. You don’t have to waste time hunting for your scissors. You know exactly where they are. Time is money, and saving time saved money. You also save money by not buying more scissors that you don’t need. See Tip #1.
I am a pretty organized person, but even I have junk drawers and scary closets. I’m working on those one at a time. I’m also in the middle of the KonMari Method, and it really works!
If you’re totally unorganized, don’t make it such an overwhelming task. Try starting with one drawer. That’s it, just one drawer. Slowly work your way around the house organizing one area at a time.
You can find all kinds of cheap bins at the Dollar Store or in the Target Dollar Spot. I like to reuse the boxes I get from Birchbox to organize things. The bottoms of the boxes I use for my makeup, and the tops are the perfect size for my desk drawers. I reuse all of those ipsy cosmetic bags to organize my purse, my car, even junk drawers. They aren’t just for makeup!
Don’t forget, while you’re organizing, real life happens. When you take something out, be sure to put it back where it came from when you’re done. Have a designated place for everything to return to, and you’ll stay organized. It makes the deep cleaning go faster.
Organize Your Life
Organizing your life is the same way. I use my binders, of course, and if you haven’t checked those out yet, you need to. Start here. By knowing exactly where everything is, or what I’m supposed to be doing that day, I don’t waste time & I can plan better. I don’t waste money by driving back and forth to run errands. I run them all in a logical path to save gas. We don’t waste money on food we won’t eat or expensive ingredients because I plan my meals menu for the week according to what I have and what’s on sale. That saves me money on groceries.
Being organized saves me time because it allows me to get tasks done quickly so that I can get back to doing whatever it is that I want to do, like hanging out with my kids. That’s why Getting Organized is Tip #6 for How I Save Money.
