Easy Casual Holiday Outfits (And One Dressy One)!

Favorite Things · December 6, 2018

If you follow me on Instagram, you know that I try to post my daily outfits as a way to encourage myself to be an adult.  You know, get up, get dressed, put makeup on, not be a slob.  Simple things.  To make this easier, I rebuilt my closet & Konmari’d my wardrobe, but I also buy clothes that I can mix and match into several different outfits.  Now that it’s the holiday season, I’m taking my simple approach to dressing during the day with a cardigan, top, jeans and sneakers, and making it more festive.  Here’s how I mix and match to make easy festive casual holiday outfits that I can wear the entire holiday season.

Get a Holiday Capsule Wardrobe so you can have festive outfits all season long! See how I mix and match casual pieces to create fun outfits to celebrate Christmas!

Basically, it’s a holiday capsule wardrobe for day time, using the basic colors of the holidays: red, green, white, black & grey.  Throw in denim and you’re set!

Graphic Tees

First, I like to start with graphic tees. There are so many cute graphic tees for the holidays.  I love finding them at craft boutiques and holiday markets, but even Target, Jane.com, Old Navy & Nordstrom have great options.  Here are a few of my favorite graphic tees for Christmas!

Blouses

If you want to dress this base layer up a bit, you could go with a more blousy option.  Here’s a some more dressy tops to spread your cheer to the office!

Jeans & Leggings

The bottoms are exactly what you’d expect: jeans.  I rotate through all of my jeans: blue, black, and white.  If you have grey jeans, those can work too.  You can also do leggings if your shirt is long enough in front.  Here’s some jeans (most under $50!):

Cardigans

For the layers on the top, I always gravitate to open cardigans that cover my rear.  It is Fall/Winter after all, though sometimes its not so cold here in Texas.  The cardigans cozy it up.  Over the years, I’ve purchased my favorite cardigans in, you guessed it, red, green, black, and grey.  I don’t have a white one, I’ll have to budget for that.  Here’s a round up of some open cardigans that will fit the bill:

Flannel Shirts

Sometimes if its not too cold outside, I’ll swap the cardigan for a festive flannel or plaid shirt and wear it open or tied around my waist.  My favorites are from Old Navy, but there’s a lot out there this time of year.  Some of my favorites (there are some awesome holiday plaid options, but the widget won’t let me tag the different colors. Make sure you click to see all of the options so you don’t miss out!):

Vests, Jackets & Hats

Finally, if its really cold, you might want to put a puffer vest or denim jacket on top of the flannel for an extra layer, or accessorize with a fun hat.

Shoes

Finally, sneakers.  Sneakers are key to the casual look.  Sometimes, I don’t always wear sneakers, though, so I’ll link all of my shoes that I mix in with these outfits.

And that’s it!  You can mix and match these for festive outfits all season long!  Collect a few pieces each year, and in no time, you’ll have a complete holiday wardrobe.  The shirts can be put away after the season, but everything else are wardrobe staples.

I’ve always done my nails at home to save money, but I wanted something that actually lasted without damaging my nails.

The Dazzle Dry system dries in about 5 minutes, wears like gel (without the damage), and I can go over a week without chipping.

I’m using You’re Unforgettable from their Better Together spring collection, and I linked the full system + shades in my LTK so you can shop everything in one place.

I’ve shared parts of this room before — but not th I’ve shared parts of this room before — but not the full evolution.

This is my 16-year-old son’s bedroom. I designed it back in the 2020 One Room Challenge with the goal of creating something we wouldn’t need to redo every few years.

Before that, it was a bright little boy’s room.
And when we first got the keys? Just a blank box.

Over time, we’ve upgraded it slowly — including replacing the carpet with hardwood last year to match the rest of the house.

The foundation hasn’t changed.
Just the seasons.

More books.
More Legos.
More personality.

Same room. Just evolving.

I’ll be sharing more spaces from our renovation — not in order, just as they come. Follow along for more. 🤍

Adding an art lamp was the final touch. It completely changed how this space feels, especially at night. ✨
