There are lots of ways to reduce your spending and save more money. Over the last decade, I’ve practiced several different ways to live a more frugal life. Today, I’m going to share how I save money when I buy online.
This is the third in a series of blog posts entitled “How I Save Money”. This post is part of a semi-regular series of posts detailing one way in which I’ve saved money for my family. Each tip will be my own experience, but something that you can easily replicate in your own money-saving journey, if you so choose.

Tip #3: Buy Online
Why Buy Online?
Choosing to buy online is a great way to compare prices and get the lowest price on any item. Many stores offer Free Shipping and Coupon Codes to get even more savings on top of the lowest prices. There are websites like Price Grabber or even Google Products where you can enter the item you are looking for, and it will compare the prices online for you! Sites like savings.com give you active coupon codes for the stores you choose to shop at. These sites make shopping so much easier!
I always benchmark prices against Amazon.com. To me, they have the best rock-bottom prices around on all kinds of things from TVs to groceries and more. In some states, you don’t have to pay sales tax.
Use Portals
Another way to save when you buy online is by shopping through Rakuten. You all have seen me talk about Rakuten before, and it really is one of the most important money-saving tips in my aresnal. Rakuten has over 1200 stores (Amazon.com has certain categories that pay cash back) and you get cash back on your purchase just for stopping by the Rakuten site before going on to the store where you want to shop. Just click on the store’s link through Rakuten and then shop online as normal.
Rakuten really is a fantastic site, and you get $5 just for signing up! I’ve been a member since June 2008, and my all-time cash back is over $2,500! I earned this buying things I normally would have purchased either online or at the mall. I saved gas and time plus got cash back just for taking one extra step and going through Rakuten. Save Gas When You Buy Online
Online shopping is a great way to not only find out which stores have the lowest prices, but it also saves you time and gas! I’ve saved a ton of money when I buy online, and I’ve never had any issues at all. Don’t be scared, shop online!
