Nordstrom Try On Session – Summer Dresses

After we went to J.Crew Factory on Memorial Day Weekend, we headed over to Nordstrom to see if they had any jeans on sale for Doug.  While he was shopping, I headed up to BP to try on some Summer dresses that I’ve had my eye on.  I wanted to make sure I ordered the right size.

For reference, I’m 5’3″ and 100 lbs.  I usually wear an XS/0/24 in most items, but have been known to size up for a looser, more relaxed fit in tops.

I’m usually more of a Nordstrom Online Shopper.  Sometimes, when I have the time, I’ll go and try things on so that I know what size I need to order when I see them go on sale or I have extra money in the budget.  This was one of those trips for me.

If you’ve been around here for a while, you’ll know that I’m a couponer and I’m pretty frugal.  You might think that Nordstrom is out of your price range.  I’m here to tell you that you are wrong.  If you’ve never shopped Nordstrom before, you MUST give them a try.  They have wonderful quality items at all price points.  They have several sales during the year to help you save even more.  Right now, the Half-Yearly Sale is in full swing, and you can save up to 40% off items across the store!

My favorite tip for savings at Nordstrom is to shop in the BP department.  They have really cute clothes at a lower price point.  BP is the Juniors Department at Nordstrom, but lately its had some really sophisticated styles that are appropriate for all ages.  I’m almost 38 and still firmly shopping in the Nordstrom Junior’s Department.  #noshame

As usual, these pics were taken with my iPhone 6.  We’ve been saving for an upgrade this Fall, so hang on for better pics!

Dresses are something that has been on my need list, not a want list.  I’ve been pregnant or nursing since January of 2009, so I needed nursing access most of that time.  Many dresses don’t accommodate that, so I hadn’t really bought dresses to wear every day in a very long time.  When I Konmari’d my closet, I got rid of a ton of old dresses.  So it was time to modernize my dress wardrobe to fit my lifestyle and my new body shape.

But let’s face it, it’s so hot here, and Summer dresses are something I’ve been looking forward to for the better part of a decade.  Dresses are easy throw-on-and-go, all-in-one outfits.  They’ll go perfectly to help me in my Closet Challenge on days when I’m feeling lazy.

Nordstrom Leith Cotton Tank Dress. I went to Nordstrom over Memorial Day Weekend to try on Summer dresses from my wish list!

This Jersey Tank Dress was super comfy.  This is the perfect Summer Daytime Casual dress, and easy to layer for the Fall.  Nice and breezy!  I found it true to size, and went with my normal XS.  This dress was not see-through at all.  It’s $55 and currently comes in 7 colors!

Nordstrom Leith Racerback Tank Dress. I went to Nordstrom over Memorial Day Weekend to try on Summer dresses from my wish list!

I’ve been eyeing this racerback tank dress for a while.  All the bloggers say its perfect because its comfy and it doesn’t wrinkle.  I tried it on and found that all of that is true!  Plus, the fabric is very cool to the touch and not too thick.  Perfect for Summer nights out!  It’s normally $49, but is currently included in the Half-Yearly Sale and 40% off making it just $29.40!  11 colors to choose from!  I ordered 2!

Nordstrom Leith Ruched Tank Dress. I went to Nordstrom over Memorial Day Weekend to try on Summer dresses from my wish list!

If you follow me on Facebook, you’ll know that I picked up the heathered navy version of this ruched tank dress the very first day of the Half Yearly Sale.  The blue and peach colors were included in the Half Yearly Sale, and those sold out faster than fast.  I was lucky enough to get an XS.  I also have this dress in the long-sleeve version in an XS.

Everywhere I looked, it was recommended to order one size up so that it wasn’t so tight and more comfortable.  But, I ignored that, because I’m usually an XS in everything.  The two that I have are tight in the back, but not too tight for a date night.  I wanted to try on a Small to see if that was more comfortable, and it was.  Always read the reviews, people!  Or, you could order 2 sizes and return the one that doesn’t work.  There’s free shipping and free returns all the time at Nordstrom!

So yes, buy one size up.  I love this green!  It is definitely the next one I’m buying!  It’s $56 and comes in 9 colors!

Nordstrom Leith Cotton Tank Dress. I went to Nordstrom over Memorial Day Weekend to try on Summer dresses from my wish list!

I saw this printed maxi dress on the rack and thought it was really sweet for a Summer night.  It comes in several different prints, but this one jumped out at me from the rack.  I tried it on in an XS, and it was sort of a Tale of Two Dresses.  The Length is perfect for me.  The waist is a natural waist and it was very snug.  But the top was way too loose.  I wanted to love this one, but I didn’t.  Maybe if you have a large chest, this would work for you.  It’s $55 and comes in 9 different prints.

Nordstrom Lace Midi Dress. I went to Nordstrom over Memorial Day Weekend to try on Summer dresses from my wish list!

Finally, I wanted to try this lace midi dress that I’d seen all over Instagram.  I have a Holiday Event this year that I need to find a nice dress for, and thought this might be an option.  I really liked it.  It’s too long for my short frame, so I’d have to get it altered, but Nordstrom has a wonderful tailor.  The top fit great, and the see through bottom didn’t look as weird as it does on the model.  I was surprised at the fabric, its polyester, but it doesn’t have that slick feel and isn’t scratchy like lace is.  It’s very soft, almost like cotton.  It’s $89 and comes in 8 different colors.  Great wedding guest dress!

So those are the dresses that I found on my very quick trip to Nordstrom this weekend.  After this try-on session, I loaded up my Wish List!

Make sure to follow me on Instagram and keep up with the outfits I’m putting together in my Closet Challenge Recap!  I really love how the challenge is keeping me accountable in getting dressed like an adult every day.  #nomorelazymom

I’ve always done my nails at home to save money, but I wanted something that actually lasted without damaging my nails.

The Dazzle Dry system dries in about 5 minutes, wears like gel (without the damage), and I can go over a week without chipping.

I’m using You’re Unforgettable from their Better Together spring collection, and I linked the full system + shades in my LTK so you can shop everything in one place.

This is my 16-year-old son’s bedroom. I designed it back in the 2020 One Room Challenge with the goal of creating something we wouldn’t need to redo every few years.

Before that, it was a bright little boy’s room.
And when we first got the keys? Just a blank box.

Over time, we’ve upgraded it slowly — including replacing the carpet with hardwood last year to match the rest of the house.

The foundation hasn’t changed.
Just the seasons.

More books.
More Legos.
More personality.

Same room. Just evolving.

I’ll be sharing more spaces from our renovation — not in order, just as they come. Follow along for more. 🤍

Adding an art lamp was the final touch. It completely changed how this space feels, especially at night. ✨
