What I ordered from Amazon: January 2020

Hello!  Sorry for the break.  I’ve been super busy with a list much longer than I can tackle lately.  We have a hard deadline of Spring Break to get 4 projects done in the house.  I’ve got 2 weeks to go, and it’s really crazy.  I really want to show you the laundry room reveal next week!  In the mean time, let’s see what I ordered from Amazon in January 2020!

I love Amazon.  You love Amazon.  So I thought I’d show you what I order from Amazon each month!

See everything that I bought on Amazon this month!

If you missed it last time, you can see what I ordered from Amazon in November & December by clicking here.

Amazon can be a real time saver, but it can also get out of control quickly.  If you’ve been reading the blog for a while, you know I have a pretty detailed household budget that I manage through You Need A Budget (YNAB).  My YNAB Budget keeps me on track for my goals.  Checking it before making a purchase means that I make smart decisions when it comes to spending.

How I Save When Shopping Amazon

I’m not always spending money from the budget when I shop on Amazon.  I use Swagbucks to earn FREE amazon gift cards and they really help to have extra “fun money” to shop on Amazon.  Click here to learn more about how I use Swagbucks every day to earn over $300 in Free Amazon Gift Cards each year!

I also use the Chase Amazon Prime Credit Card to make purchases when I’m not using my gift cards.  The Chase Amazon Prime Card gives you the option to earn 5% on your purchase or use your points to pay on Amazon.com.  I always select the 5% cash back option when I order, and then I will redeem the cash back as a statement credit on my credit card to save money.  That way, each purchase earns me the 5% cash back, and I can choose to erase certain purchases with my cash back through the Chase website.

I tend to save up our cash back for the holidays, but sometimes if the budget is lean and we NEED something, I will use the cash back to reimburse the purchase.  All of the money spent is budgeted for in our YNAB budget.  We pay the card off the day before payday just like all of our other cards.  We never carry a balance.

Amazon January 2020 Purchases

My Amazon January 2020 purchases were slower, which is usual at this time of the year.  I typically attempt a No-Spend Month in January.  But with the Kitchen & Laundry Room Remodel finished, I knew I would be attempting to get those organized.  I did purchase a few things on Amazon in January, and I also got my Subscribe & Save order.

See what I ordered from Amazon in January 2020 including this electrolyte mix!

First up, I’m in a perpetually dehydrated state.  I saw a lady on Instagram talk about this powdered electrolyte supplement, so I thought I would try that.  It’s got a lot of vitamins and minerals in it.  This flavor is lemonade.  It reminds me of when I was a kid and my Dad would make Gatorade from powder after he mowed the lawn.  I drink one glass a day, usually when I go pick up the kids.  This container is less than $30.

My son received a gift for Christmas that he already had.  Because he doesn’t have an Amazon account yet, we had to run it through my account.  Since I keep a Gift Card Balance from Swagbucks and taking surveys, I knew the return would get added to that amount.  So, we decided to place an order for some things he needed that was about the same amount as the return.

He has completely destroyed the backpack that I bought for him a couple years ago.  So he decided to replace his backpack with some of the return money.  He found this basic backpack, and it works well for his elementary-school needs.

With the little that was leftover, he decided to get another Penguin Clothbound Classics book.  We’re slowly collecting these beautiful keepsake classics for him to read and display in his tween room.  He’s been wanting to read Treasure Island, so he chose that one.

I’ve had some smart switches collecting dust for a few years.  I don’t know why we never got around to installing them, but we didn’t.  As I was organizing a kitchen cabinet, I found them and decided they needed to be installed ASAP.  I had forgotten that one of the switches I wanted replaced with a smart switch was actually a 3-way switch. This means that I needed an Add On switch for it to work properly.  So I picked one up.  We’re slowly making our home more smart with these switches in the common areas of our house.

See what I ordered from Amazon in January 2020 including our monthly vitamin subscription!

For our monthly Subscribe & Save order, we all got our monthly vitamins, and I added something new to the mix.  Doug got his SmartyPants Men’s Complete. The kids got a bottle of Smartypants Kids Formula & Fiber, and I got my Smartypants Women’s Complete.  I also got my Olly Sleep and Olly Skin Supplements.

I decided to start taking a Women’s Probiotic, so I added these Renew Life Women’s Probiotics to our monthly order.  If I can find them cheaper at the store with a coupon, then I will skip the Subscribe & Save.  But for now, this is the cheapest option.

Total Spent on Amazon January 2020

In January 2020, I spent $168.60 on Amazon.  $104.71 of that was on our Amazon Prime Credit Card that earns 5% cash back.   I used $63.89 of my Gift Card Balance that I earned from Swagbucks.  I chose not to redeem any of our points for cash back on our Amazon Prime Credit Card.

Did you know I have an Amazon Storefront?  I do!  Check it out if you want to see the things I’m loving on Amazon!  It’s fun for me to “windowshop”.  I just started loading up the Women’s Fashion list with items for an upcoming tropical vacation!

Did you order anything fun from Amazon this month that you absolutely love?  Tell me in the comments!  Check back next month to see what I ordered in February!

I’ve always done my nails at home to save money, but I wanted something that actually lasted without damaging my nails.

The Dazzle Dry system dries in about 5 minutes, wears like gel (without the damage), and I can go over a week without chipping.

I’m using You’re Unforgettable from their Better Together spring collection, and I linked the full system + shades in my LTK so you can shop everything in one place.

I’ve shared parts of this room before — but not th I’ve shared parts of this room before — but not the full evolution.

This is my 16-year-old son’s bedroom. I designed it back in the 2020 One Room Challenge with the goal of creating something we wouldn’t need to redo every few years.

Before that, it was a bright little boy’s room.
And when we first got the keys? Just a blank box.

Over time, we’ve upgraded it slowly — including replacing the carpet with hardwood last year to match the rest of the house.

The foundation hasn’t changed.
Just the seasons.

More books.
More Legos.
More personality.

Same room. Just evolving.

I’ll be sharing more spaces from our renovation — not in order, just as they come. Follow along for more. 🤍

Adding an art lamp was the final touch. It completely changed how this space feels, especially at night. ✨
