Admit it, you buy yourself presents. I fully admit to it. I told my husband a few weeks ago that I’d ordered my Mother’s Day gift. Since reading the Konmari Book, I’ve become very intentional about what comes into my house. That makes giving me gifts, or anyone else in my house, very difficult. So I buy my own gifts or give lists for the most part.
I’m planning a mini-master bedroom makeover when the house project funds are replenished after the bathroom remodel. I really wanted to get rid of my bulky alarm clock for something more compact. You’ve all seen those memes about how an iPhone takes the place of like a million different items we had 25 years ago, right? Well, I wanted to use my phone as an alarm clock, and I wanted to be able to charge it and my watch on my nightstand.
A few months ago, I went on a search for the perfect charging station that could double as an alarm clock. I kept running into cheap plastic or bamboo versions – not the look I was going for. Then one day while Pinteresting, I found this!
Its a combination iPhone/Apple Watch Charging Station made from a gorgeous solid block of walnut with a cool facet cut by Oakywood, an Etsy seller in Poland. They have versions that are just for phones, or combos for a phone and watch. I quickly added this to my wish list. A few weeks ago, they went on sale, so I snatched one up. It arrived in less than a week! Impressive for having to go through Customs!
When I finally opened it the weekend of Mother’s Day, I discovered that they included a lightning cable, which is very much needed in this house. Those things go missing all of the time around here. Because it uses a lightning charger with a securing screw, you can use it with any case!
My son had fun finding Poland on our giant IKEA map in the playroom. My husband is super jealous and wants one for his nightstand.
Oakywood makes all kinds of cool things. Definitely check out their shop!
The next thing I bought myself were some new Apple Watch bands. Its getting to be that time of year where we’re constantly around water, so I wanted to pick up some new silicone bands to wear during the Summer. You know, just in case I have to dive into a pool with no notice or something.
I personally don’t buy Apple Brand Apple Watch Bands. I like to buy mine on Amazon. (We are a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for us to earn fees by linking to Amazon.com and affiliated sites.) You can usually find silicone bands for around $10. I used some Amazon Gift Cards that I’d earned through Swagbucks to purchase these. This time, I picked up this cool ice blue and a grey band. I think next time, I’m going to get white. Last year, I got this Lilly inspired print!
Finally, the last item I received for Mother’s Day was kind of a joke. See, I don’t cook. I can handle breakfasts & deserts, but I don’t do dinners. Everyone always complains when I cook, so I just don’t do it. Doug does it. I plan the meals, I do the shopping, Doug cooks.
Except now, he doesn’t.
That’s right, after 4 years of working from home 100% of the time, Doug is back commuting to an office. Which means I have to cook dinner. #tinyviolin
I told him if I have to cook, he should buy me the Magnolia Table Cookbook, so he did. It came the very next day. I knew this would be a good Mother’s Day gift. That’s why I included it on my Best Gifts for Mom post!
So far, I’ve only made one recipe from the cookbook – an easy one – the Chicken Salad. It was delicious. Definitely better the next day.
That’s everything I got for Mother’s Day. Usually, I don’t get anything, so this was a nice change of pace. I’m loving that charging station so far! It’s really fantastic and you should get one. I want to get a single phone charger for the guest room.
What did you get for Mother’s Day? Tell us in the comments!
